Q: My furnace is not working. What should I do?
A: Take this self-assessment test before you initiate a service request.
If your burner still has not come on after going through these steps, call Keil Oil right away for service.
Q: Is heating oil the best choice for me?
A: Oil heat is much cleaner, safer, and more energy efficient than most other ways of heating your home. It is very low risk, it is noncombustible, nontoxic, biodegradable, noncarcinogenic, and carries a very low risk of CO (carbon monoxide) poisoning. Gas heat poses a much greater risk and is associated with more than 90% of all CO-related deaths. Oil, on the other hand, accounts for less than 10% of that number.
Q: What is better: oil, electric or propane heat?
A: Heating oil vastly outperforms electric heat and propane. It is far less expensive to heat your home with oil than it is to heat it with electricity. Oil produces significantly more heating energy (almost 50% more) than propane. In other words, it would take more than 1.5 gallons of propane to produce the same amount of heat as one gallon of heating oil.
Q: What are the advantages of keeping my heating system maintained?
A: A well-maintained heating system will run more efficiently and last longer. It will run cleaner, use far less fuel, and it won’t need as many repairs—meaning that it will save you money.
Q: How often should my heating/cooling system be serviced?
A: Your HVAC system should be tuned up annually for best results. Well-maintained heating and cooling systems can help save you up to 15% on your annual home energy bill.
Q: Where do you store your heating oil?
A: We maintain our own storage facility at our Riverside location. Our facilities are held to stringent environmental and safety-compliance standards and in accordance with state and federal regulations. We maintain our own inventory to ensure that our customers’ fuel needs are well looked after.
Q: Do you outsource your equipment service?
A: No. Our service technicians are all in-house. This is how we are able to maintain integrity and quality in everything we do. Since our technicians live in the area, there is always help close at hand when you need it.
Q: What are my payment options?
A: We provide many flexible payment options for your convenience. We accept all major credit cards, personal checks and cash, and we offer a secure payment portal, so you can pay online. We also accept credit card payments by phone or in person at our Riverdale offices.
Q: My oil lines are getting clogged up. Why does this happen?
A: Occasionally, wax particles may form in the fuel due to extended high or low temperatures or other less-than-ideal situations. If this happens, your heating system may stop working. We combat the clogs with various methods, depending on the cause and the situation. We recommend the using HOT™ 4 in 1 Heating Oil Treatment as a preventative for clogged oil lines. Q: Why is there a whistle on the top of my oil tank?
A: This is known as a vent alarm. When the whistling sounds stops, there is no more air flowing out from your tank. This tells the driver that the tank is filled with oil, not air.
